Faust and the Magic Manor

[In Faust’s room]

Akira: Faust, you’ve been to the Magic Manor many times before in the past, right?

Faust: Well, I’m a Sage’s Wizard. It isn’t like I have a choice.

Akira: Is there anything related to the Magic Manor that’s memorable to you?

Faust: Yes. They’re all bad memories though.

Akira: So you’ve a pretty negative view of this place.

Faust: Sorry. Even if I tell you about those, bygones are bygones.

Faust: Do you want to hear about the history of the Magic Manor?

Akira: Yes, if you don’t mind. I’m not really a scholar of history though. More like a casual hobbyist.

Faust: When I was young, about 400 years ago, this place wasn’t a magnificent building like this.

Akira: Oh I see.

Faust: I only saw it from afar though. Back then, the Magic Manor looked like a simple fort or tower built from stone. Someone I knew wanted to have a look at the Sage from another world, so he planned to break into the Manor in secret.

Akira: He broke into the Manor?! Wow, he must have been very, very curious.

Faust: He didn’t do that in the end. He thought a person who came from a faraway world and returned to an unknown place must have been lonely, and wanted to be friends with the Sage. However, he was aware it was difficult to do that.

Akira: Is it difficult to be friends with the Sage?

Faust: What do you think? A person, whom you will part with at an indeterminate time and who will remember neither your name nor your face. Would you call someone like that your friend?

Shino and the Magic Manor

[In Shino’s room]

Akira: Shino, this year is the first time you’ve been to the Magic Manor, right?

Shino: That’s right. The previous round when Heath was summoned to be Sage’s Wizard, I wanted to accompany him but our magic teacher Jack stopped me. According to him, I would act like a braggart in the presence of the wizards from other countries if I was around.

Akira: Now that you’re here, what do you think about the Magic Manor?

Shino: Not bad. I myself got a pretty nice room. Heath’s room is totally inadequate though. There’s not nearly enough space. He’s the heir of the Blanchetts, you know. But Heath says he’ll put up with it because the Prince of Central Country Arthur doesn’t complain about his room.

Shino: Arthur has a big castle just a stone's throw away though, while Heath doesn’t. We should pick a floor and convert all of it into a room for Heath.

Akira: B- but I think Heath may decline something like that?

Shino: I’m aware of that. He’s always reserved and modest. I have to champion what he deserves for him. At the very least, it’s inappropriate that his room is of the same size as mine. I was happy for a moment at first, but our stations are different. We aren’t fellow disciples of the same master. We aren’t friends either.

Akira: Can’t you put aside your positions of master and retainer when you are at the Magic Manor and be his friend? I think it’d be lovely if you and he can make a lot of memories as friends during the time you live here.

Shino: I don’t think so. If the Magic Manor doesn’t treat Heath as appropriate for his station, then I have to do that. I want to bring Heath even more radiant, wonderful things.

Shino: Don’t you have the same feeling when you look at Heath? That’s normal, right?

Akira: Uhm, I guess I understand what you mean. The urge to bring him beautiful gifts.

Shino: You get it. I want to make him shine even brighter with items that are worthy of him.

Shino: ……..

Shino: Do you mind if I build a special villa for Heath on the roof of the Magic Manor?

Akira: Uhm, I’d rather you not.

Shino: How about the courtyard?

Akira: No, please.

Shino: Damn. This is an issue that concerns the honor of Heath’s family, you know.

Heathcliff and the Magic Manor

[In Heathcliff’s room]

Akira: Heathcliff, this isn’t the first time you live at the Magic Manor, right?

Heathcliff: That’s right. I stayed here for an extended time before the battle with the Great Calamity. During that time, I became friends with Cain and learnt magic from Master Faust. My deceased magic teacher Jack lived with me in the Manor too.

Akira: So this is a place with lots of memories for you.

Heathcliff: It really is. Perhaps because of that, I was incredibly happy when Shino was summoned. Like, Shino is here too, in the Magic Manor that holds a lot of memories for me.

Heathcliff: Perhaps it’s a burden for Shino that we have such a fate with each other though.

Akira: That’s not the case at all. I think he would be angry instead if his fate wasn’t linked with yours. Since your fates are linked together, he must be happy.

Heathcliff: I’d be glad if that’s the case. It feels so strange to me though. When I first met Master Faust and Nero, Rutile and Chloe for the first time, I couldn’t imagine that we would get along with each other. And yet, we talk with each other so comfortably about many topic everyday now.       

Heathcliff: To me, the Magic Manor is certainly a place where I meet people.

Akira: It’s lovely you have had many wonderful encounters.

Heathcliff: Thank you very much. Master Sage, from the bottom of my heart, I’m thankful that I met you too.

Nero and the Magic Manor

[In Nero’s room]

Akira: Nero, this is the first time you’ve been to the Magic Manor, right? Or have you been here before?

Nero: No. This is indeed the first time I come here. In the past, I tried to stay away from this place even if I had errands in Central.

Akira: You did? Why…

Nero: Certain geezers often mingle among the Sage’s Wizards. I wanted to give them a wide berth because no way to know what kind of trouble I’d get dragged into. I was doing what normal people did and had a pretty comfortable life. It’d be a pain if that got messed up.

Akira: I see. In that case, what kind of impression did you have when you first arrived at the Magic Manor?

Nero: Scared out of my wits. There were one too many Northern wizards in a small place. It was like keeping dragons and wyverns in a rows of cells on the same floor. Things have been working out far better than I dared to imagine though. It’s all thanks to you, Mx. Sage.

Akira: Me?

Nero: Yeah. No one wants to see you sad, you know. Anyway, you've been working hard.
